AFUED Concludes UNESCO-IICBA Mobile Learning Capacity Building Programme Amidst Excitement

The Adeyemi Federal University of Education, Ondo was aglow on Wednesday 28th day of October as it successfully held the UNESCO-IICBA Mobile Learning Capacity Building Programme, a high-impact training organized by the Federal Ministry of Education in collaboration with the Government of Japan and UNESCO International Institute for Capacity Building in Africa (UNESCO-IICBA).

The programme, which drew participants from across neighbouring institutions in Ondo, faculties, departments, as well as secondary schools, was designed to equip educators with cutting-edge mobile learning pedagogies - Goocus, digital content creation, and innovative classroom integration skills in line with global best practices.

Speaking during the opening session, Mrs. Esther Olotu, a Federal Ministry of Education representative appreciated the Federal Government for the initiative and encouraged participants to make the most of the opportunity.

Held under the UNESCO - IICBA Capacity Building Programme banner with partners including Pan Africa University PAU, AUCIEFFA, and the Federal Ministry of Education, the training featured hands-on sessions, practical demonstrations, and interactive engagements handled by Dr. Kehinde Adenegan, Dr. Joy Olawuyi and Dr. Olaronke Iroju.

In his opening remarks, the UNESCO-IICBA Focal Person, Dr. Kehinde Adenegan, expressed profound appreciation to the Federal Ministry of Education, the Government and People of Japan, and UNESCO-IICBA for their commitment to transforming teacher education in Africa. He noted that the knowledge gained would significantly enhance teaching effectiveness and students' learning outcomes in the digital age.

In his words, "Goocus is a mobile learning platform designed by Castalia in Japan which can be used both in online and offline modes, with a special provision for Goocus Edge, a local server with access point which can accommodate students to work without the use of data/Internet", said Adenegan.

Participants, who were visibly elated, described the training as timely, practical, and transformative, pledging to cascade the knowledge to colleagues and students. Some encouraged UNESCO, as well as the Federal Government of Nigeria, to ensure free distribution of the Goocus edge to various institutions or subsidize the costs.

The highlight of the closing ceremony was the presentation of Certificates of Training to some participants and most active participants marking their successful participation in the programme. Other highlights include motivating active participants with card and book gifts.

Some of the Ondo institutions and schools that participated include AFUED, UNIMED, NIEPA,  ACT, La Salle College, Demonstration Secondary School,  St. James Catholic Grammar School, St. Monica Girls Grammar School among others.

Meanwhile, on a remarkable visit to the host university Vice Chancellor, Prof. Bayode Popoola, the University management, through the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ireti Folasade Alao, reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining such global partnerships that position AFUED at the forefront of educational innovation in Nigeria and the continual  readiness to partner and collaborate with well-meaning bodies and agencies to promote digital education as the university prides itself in taking the leads in educational related matters.
