Owo schools compete for 2026 FSMO edition as brains battle begins in grand style

61 Students, 28 Schools, 1 Crown: Falaye Dynasty Bankrolls Owo’s Biggest Science Showdown. The ICT hall of Owo High School came alive on Thursday 11th June as the 2026 edition of the Falaye Science & Maths Olympiad, FSMO, kicked off with the showcase of the participants and fierce competition at Owo High School Owo.

A total of 61 of Owo Local Government’s sharpest young minds from 28 secondary schools converged for the opening round- IQ test. From scribbling and solving logical equations to simplifying IQ-driven questions, some of the interviewed students made it clear: this year’s crown won’t be won by chance.

The annual brain battle, sponsored by the revered Falaye dynasty in Owo through Dr. Foluso Falaye, is fast becoming the gold standard for nurturing science and maths talent in Ondo State. Dr. Foluso Falaye's representative at the opening session emphatically addressed the participants that the programme is his family’s way of “investing in the next generation of Nigerian innovators before they ever step into a university lecture hall.”

Anchoring the high-energy event is Dr. Kehinde Adenegan, whose blend of wit, maths/science trivia, and crowd control kept both students and spectators on their toes. “Yesterday was just the warm-up,” Dr. Adenegan told reporters. “When 28 schools bring their best, you know the next rounds will be nothing short of explosive. Welcome to FSMO 2026: where Owo’s future scientists are Made.”

Organizers say FSMO 2026 is more than a competition. It’s a movement to make science cool, maths accessible, and Owo the launchpad for future engineers, doctors, and tech founders.

With elimination rounds ahead and bragging rights on the line, all eyes are now on which school will emerge as Owo LGA’s 2026 FSMO champion.

"The next stage promises tougher questions, bigger stakes, and the same electric atmosphere that turned Owo High School into a stadium of scholars today", Adenegan concluded.

Ipele-Owo attack: cleric allays Nigerians fear as worshippers desert churches on January 1

A cleric, Ven. Dr. Olatunde Abiodun, has urged Nigerians to remain calm and not be intimidated by recent attacks nor purported fearful actions around, including the Ipele-Owo incident, where gunmen attacked a police station on New Year's Eve causing the popular crossover night to be abruptly brought to an end in many churches within and around Owo, resulting in a great panic, fear and unimaginable tension in the ancient town and its environs.
