Adeyemi Rotary empowers visually impaired students with digital tools

The Rotary Club of Ondo-Adeyemi has donated digital learning equipment to visually impaired students at Adeyemi Federal University of Education, Ondo, in a move Rotary leaders say will “create lasting impact” in inclusive education.

The commissioning was held on Wednesday, June 25, 2026, immediately after the club’s “Tea break with the President” programme organized by the outgoing President, Rotn. Dr. Kehinde Adenegan. Dr. Adenegan’s tenure as club President comes to an end on June 30, 2026.

The project was commissioned by Prof. Folorunso Ojo Balogun of the Department of Mathematics, Adeyemi Federal University of Education, Ondo. 

Before the items were commissioned, Mr. Gbenga Akinbolade, the AFUED staff coordinator of the special students, demonstrated the use of the gadgets before guests, Rotarians, and Rotaractors. Remarkably, the items commissioned include:  

- 6 laptops with specialized software installed to aid visually impaired students in reading, typing, and research;  

- 1 printer for producing braille and large-print materials; 

- 1 router to provide internet access for digital learning; 

- Radio transmitters for audio recording and transmission to support audio transmission from the laptop, for lecture capture and audio-based learning. 

Speaking at the event, Rotn. Dr. Adenegan said the project was conceived under the Rotary International 2025-2026 theme "Unite for Good” and aligned with Rotary’s focus area of Basic Education and Literacy.  He noted that many of the gadgets had earlier been provided to the campus resource Centre under the rotary year of Rotn. Olufisayo Fakorede (PHF) but that the items were just upgraded with facilities to make them well utilized to the maximum by intended users. 

“These tools are more than gadgets. They are bridges that will help our visually impaired students access knowledge independently, participate fully in class, and compete academically without barriers,” Dr. Adenegan stated.

He noted that the "Tea break with the President", held at the Adeyemi College of Technology (ACT Ondo), provided a platform to engage members, partners, and stakeholders before closing out his year of service with a project that directly touches lives.

Commissioning the equipment, Prof. Balogun commended Rotary’s intervention, describing it as “timely and transformative” for the university’s Special Education Unit. He urged students to use the tools diligently and remarked that the coordinator should ensure proper maintenance and training on the software to other special students.  

Dr. Adenegan said the donation is part of Rotary Club of Ondo-Adeyemi’s commitment to leaving enduring projects for the community as his administration rounds off. He expressed appreciation to members, sponsors, and partners who made the projects possible. He recounted his recent achievements in the office for fulfilling his 7-point project agenda in which in the month of June, three projects were completed which includes basic ICT training for 100 AFUED staff and the operation keep the campus clean which provided customised waste bins and sanitation materials to the university community. 


Present at the tea break program include Dr. Adebayo Ganiyu, Dr. Ebenezer Ayeyemi, Dr. Taiwo Akinola, Dr. (Comrade) Joseph Obamoyegun, Adeyemi College of Technology Principal officers - Barr. Robert Akinkuoye (Registrar), Dr. Michael Jato (Librarian), Mrs. Taiwo Aturu (Bursar), Engr. Stephen Olawoye (Works Director), the club past presidents - Rotn. Taiwo Olaitan (PHF), Rotn Oluseto Olatuyi, and other numerous guests. 

The Rotary Club of Ondo-Adeyemi will inaugurate a new President, Rotn. Mayokun Adelakun Adetunji (PHF), on Saturday, July 4, 2026, under the new Rotary year theme “Create Lasting Impact”

Ipele-Owo attack: cleric allays Nigerians fear as worshippers desert churches on January 1
