Steve Awosika's Funeral:a tribute to a life well-lived
In a solemn yet celebratory atmosphere, the community gathered at the Cathedral Church of St. Stephens Oke Aluko on Friday, February 6th, 2026, to bid farewell to a beloved son of God, a dynamic father, and illustrious son of Ondo kingdom, Mr. Steve Olamide Awosika.
The Lord Bishop of Ondo Anglican Diocese, the Rt. Rev. Dr. Stephen Adeniran Oni, presided over the funeral service, paying tribute to a life that left an indelible mark on those who knew him. The Bishop also directed the wake-keep service, held at OFM Event Hall on the eve of the burial, Thursday, February 5th, 2026.
Meanwhile, The Most Rev. Prof. George Lasebikan, a renowned cleric and scholar, took to the pulpit to deliver a stirring eulogy, reminding the congregation of the hope that lies beyond the grave. His words of comfort and inspiration brought solace to the grieving family and friends.
In his words, Archbishop Lasebikan extolled the virtues of the life of Steve Awosika as a straightforward, upright, and God-fearing parishioner whose life others should learn to emulate. "Death has taken Awosika today, we don't know who is next and hence you should live everyday as if it will be your last day", Lasebikan retorted.
As the service drew to a close, children and family members gathered to bid a tearful farewell, sharing their fond memories and deep thoughts about the departed. Their tributes, a testament to the impact of Mr. Awosika's life, painted a picture of a man who lived with purpose, kindness, and generosity.
Meanwhile, among other notable individuals and groups that presented tributes, and renditions at the wake keep and funeral service includes Prof. Bayode Isaiah Popoola, VC of Adeyemi Federal University of Education Ondo, Mr. Omotayo Awosika, Gbemisola Awosika, Rotary Club, STEMROSE school, Cathedral Busy Bees society, AGES that digitally presented a documentary in the honour of the late educationist and renowned administrator.
The reception, held at the same venue as the wake-keep, was a time of fellowship and celebration, as friends, family, and well-wishers came together to honor the memory of a remarkable individual as both AGES and Old Rugged Cross Studio covered the event to give the deceased last respect a global and remarkable coverage.
As the Awosika family and community mourn the loss of a beloved patriarch as the church service as well as the wake keep Hall was filled to capacity with church chiefs, community chiefs, political stalwarts, educational frontiers, religious icons, youths and the like, they take comfort in the knowledge that his legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched. May his soul rest in peace.
