Prof. Adenegan becomes Ondo State Chairman of the Counseling Association of Nigeria

In a momentous event held at the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology in Akure on Monday 29th April 2024, the Ondo State chapter of the Counseling Association of Nigeria witnessed a significant transition as Prof. Taiwo Samuel Adenegan, the Achievers University Director of Academic Planning and Quality Assurance was formally inducted as the new chairman. The ceremony, which was attended by esteemed members of the counseling community, including the Director of the Ministry of Guidance and Counseling, marked a new chapter in the leadership and direction of counseling services in the state.

During the handing over ceremony, Prof. Taiwo Samuel Adenegan was officially sworn in as the new chairman of the Ondo State chapter of the Counseling Association of Nigeria. He was handed over to by Dr. Jide Oyadeyi of the National Open University of Nigeria, Akure study center .With a distinguished career in counseling and a deep commitment to promoting mental health and well-being, Prof. Adenegan’s election was met with enthusiasm and high expectations from both colleagues and stakeholders in the field.

The choice of venue for this significant event, the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology in Akure, underscored the importance placed on collaboration between educational institutions and counseling professionals in supporting students’ holistic development. The presence of key officials from the ministry highlighted their commitment to fostering partnerships that enhance counseling services within the state.

In his acceptance speech, the former Dean of Students Affairs at Achievers University Owo, Prof. Adenegan affirmed that he is committed to upholding the highest standards of professionalism, ethics, and integrity in all our endeavours. "We will strive for excellence in our practice, advocacy efforts, and educational initiatives to promote the importance of mental health and well-being in Ondo State", Taiwo Adenegan added.

"I believe that collaboration is key to achieving our goals. I look forward to working closely with government agencies, educational institutions cum school principals, healthcare providers, and other stakeholders to create a supportive environment for counselling services in Ondo State", Adenegan posited.

He publicly disclosed that one of his priorities as Chairman will be to empower counsellors through training programmes, professional development opportunities, and mentorship initiatives. "By investing in our counsellors’ growth and well-being, we can ensure they are equipped to provide effective support to those in need", Prof. Adenegan concluded.

The attendance of Mrs. Funke Ademuyiwa,  the Director of the Ministry of Guidance and Counseling at the handing over ceremony further emphasized the close relationship between government agencies and professional counseling bodies. The director’s presence symbolized official endorsement and support for initiatives aimed at improving mental health services and guidance programs across educational settings in Ondo State.

Also present at the occasion were former ACE Director of the Centre for Counseling and Human Development, Dr. Mrs. Oyenike Oyinloye, Dr. Jide Oyadeyi who handed over to Prof. Adenegan, Dr. Mrs. Prosper Molawa, other Zonal chairpersons, guests and well wishers.

In short, the handing over ceremony at the Ondo State chapter of the Counseling Association of Nigeria served as a pivotal moment for recognizing leadership transitions within the counseling profession. With Prof. Taiwo Samuel Adenegan assuming his role as chairman amidst a backdrop of institutional support and collaboration, there are high hopes for continued advancements in promoting mental health awareness and providing quality counseling services to individuals across Ondo State.
