Achievers University at 16, Inaugurates Quality Assurance Inspectors
Achievers University Owo just marked its 16th year of academic activities, on 2nd April 2024, by inaugurating a team of Quality Assurance Inspectors (QAI). The inauguration ceremony was a significant event for the university, highlighting its commitment to maintaining high standards in education and ensuring quality across all aspects of its operations.
According to Dr. Bode Ayorinde in his remarks, "the newly appointed QAI team will play a crucial role in monitoring and evaluating the quality of academic programs, facilities, and services offered by the university. Their primary objective is to uphold excellence and continuous improvement within the institution, aligning with international best practices in higher education".
Furthermore, Ayorinde remarked that the future is tough but bright for the university who at its 17th year inception is dreaming big and making wave in the Education industry to produce outputs that are marketable in the work force. Meanwhile, the university was founded on 11th December, 2008 officially.
During the inauguration ceremony, Prof Taiwo Samuel Adenegan, a prominent figure at Achievers University Owo, shared his reminiscences of the institution’s journey over the past 16 years. He reflected on the milestones achieved, challenges overcome, and the vision that has guided the university since its inception.
Prof Adenegan, the Dean of faculty of education and director of the academic planning and quality assurance directorate, unveiled the developmental stages of the university from inception till date, he being one of the pioneering staff of the first private university in Ondo and Ekiti states. Earlier, the Pro-chancellor, Dr. Bode Ayorinde emphasized the importance of quality assurance in higher education and how it is going to be a cornerstone of Achievers University’s success. He commended the dedication of faculty, staff, and students in upholding academic excellence and fostering a culture of continuous learning and innovation.
As Achievers University Owo looks towards the future, Prof Omolola Irinoye expressed confidence in the QAI team’s ability to uphold rigorous standards and drive positive change within the institution. She reiterated the university’s commitment to providing a transformative educational experience that prepares students for leadership roles in society.
"In addition, the QAIs are not secret police but visible ones. They can be differentiated with their dress, cap and badge. They are to diligently do their job to compliment the efforts of management and council. Let's all cooperate with these people to work to move the University forward in our quest to have one of the best universities in Africa", Prof. Irinoye concluded.
The epic of the event was the inauguration of the new Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics), Prof. Amos Oyesoji Aremu by the university Pro-Chancellor and council chairman, Hon. Dr. Bode Ayorinde. In the short remarks of the new DVC Acad, Prof Aremu, a counselling psychologist and security scholar & analyst, pledged to align his strategies to the vision of Dr. Ayorinde in moving the university forward.
While inaugurating the QAI, the VC, Prof. Omolola Iranoye added that the university is coming from somewhere and definitely going somewhere beyond the usual norms to conform with international best practices to maintain and improve standard. "You were not just given t-shirts to be different from others, but you need to work with management to take the university to an international standard", Iranoye reiterated.
It would be recalled that it is now part of the Nigerian University Commission and Federal Ministry of Education policies for Nigerian institutions to have Academic planning and quality assurance directorates or units. The likes of Adeyemi Federal University of Education Ondo, University of Ibadan, Obafemi Awolowo University, University of Lagos and the like already have established directorates of quality assurance.
Present at the remarkable occasion were the Alale of Idasen, Oba Kokumo Alale, the Lord Bishop of Ondo Diocese, the Rt. Revd. Dr. Stephen Adeniran Oni who led a special session to pray for the university's principal officers, Ven. Dr. Oluwarotimi Komolafe who was invited to pray for the future of the university, the Vice Chairman of the Friends of the University, Hon. Ch. Solomon Adenegan and other members of the Friends of the University, Dcness Aremu, Mr. Dokun Farinre, the first bursar of the university and host of others.
Other activities were the Owo cultural dance presentation by the cultural group of the university and the theatre group as well. It was indeed very remarkable.
