Rotary celebrates the girl child day, tasks stakeholders on female education
A foremost female leader in Ondo-Ekiti state Rotary club in the District 9125, Rotarian Bosede Olanusi, has tasked parents, society and government to ensure they provide an enabling environment that would encourage female education.
This statement was credited to her as she addressed the audience at the celebration of the International Day of the Girl child held on Tuesday, 11th October, 2022 at St. Louis Girls Secondary School, Ondo, Ondo State.
Olanusi, an Ondo State representative for Empowering Girl Initiative (EGI) Committee, urged young females in the society to always look out for positivity in “recognizable female icons” around the world.
She further implored the students to always celebrate themselves saying “the best they can be is being a girl and be proud to be one”.
Meanwhile, in her presentation, the representative of Kids and Teens Foundation, Miss Janet Ogabo Akumo, spoke to the students on sex education and listed various rights they have as females. "Never see yourselves as weaker vessels, speak up boldly on any harassment or unfair treatment meted to you", Akumo urged the students.
Other speaker who addressed the audience was the representative of Sojitade Foundation, Mrs. Temitope Aladeja. She emphasized the importance of menstrual health hygiene, puberty and lectured the students on proper ways through which they could take care of themselves during their menstrual cycle.
Speaking further, Aladeja harped on the need for the students to watch out for certain growth in their body and be cautious in their relationship with the opposite sex.
The highpoint of the event was the training of the students in different skills needed by them to survive in the country and also trained in the production of reusable sanitary pads. Consequently, certificates of participation were given to the students to mark the celebration of the girl child and for their remarkable participation.
Very remarkably, Over 100 students , 25 from st Mathew Catholic college and 80 from St. Louis girls Secondary school, Ondo. Five most brilliant students from JSS2 to SSS3 were given a token to offset their school fees for this session also two indigent students were also given a token.
Eminent personalities present at the occasion were President, Rotary Club of Akure, Rot. Micheal Kuduyo; Lieutenant Governor representing Ondo and Ekiti, Rot. Christabel Nnaemeka; President RC Ondo, Rot. Olabode Oyedele; President Nominee RC Akure Metro, Rot. Toyin Adeyalo-Ogundare; President RC Ondo Adeyemi, Rot. Olufisayo Fakorede represented by Rot. Taiwo Olaitan.
Others were Principal, St. Louis Catholic Secondary School, Ondo, Mrs Oladeji M.A; Director, Information and Public Relations, Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo, Rot. Oluseto Olatuyi; the School Counselor, Mrs. Omoniyi Agatha; staff and students of St. Mathew Secondary School Ondo to mention but a few.
