Akeredolu, Mimiko, Osemawe, Makinde, Others receive Ondo Diocese platinum awards

 In what was described as an historic event whose number of attendees have never been recorded in the Cathedral Church of St. Stephens Oke Aluko, Ondo for the grand finale of the week-long activities for the Platinum Anniversary of the Diocese of Ondo, Anglican Communion which was inaugurated in 1952. The church was filled to and beyond capacity with Anglican church members, well wishers, political gladiators and well-meaning Nigerians from all walks of life to celebrate and felicitate with the platinum awards recipients at the event.




The Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu made the list of the awardees. He was presented a platinum award of Excellence on security matters. Coincidentally, the Lord Bishop of Ondo Diocese, the Rt. Revd. Dr. Stephen Adeniran Oni, made the immediate past Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko to present the Governor's award. The Governor was ably represented by the commissioner for health, Dr. Jibayo Adeyemi who also received an award. In turns, Dr. Mimiko, Hon. Abiola Makinde, Ch. Steve Akinretoye, the Baba Ijo of the Cathedral and host of others received their awards in very remarkable ways, well celebrated by family and well-wishers. 



In the same vein, the Osemawe of Ondo kingdom was honoured by the Diocese for the roles the Osemawe dynasty has played in the development of the church in history and what the present Paramount ruler is doing on church development as well as the city.


All the awardees were meritoriously considered for what they have done at one point or the other for and in the Diocese. The Bishop reiterated that it was not virtually possible to give award to all well-meaning individuals who have someone thing or the another to affect lives but that the selected few have just been distinguished among many while during other special services of the Diocese in no distant time, others will also be appropriately honoured.

Nigerians drum support for Adenegan's 7-point agenda for 2026

Ipele-Owo attack: cleric allays Nigerians fear as worshippers desert churches on January 1

A cleric, Ven. Dr. Olatunde Abiodun, has urged Nigerians to remain calm and not be intimidated by recent attacks nor purported fearful actions around, including the Ipele-Owo incident, where gunmen attacked a police station on New Year's Eve causing the popular crossover night to be abruptly brought to an end in many churches within and around Owo, resulting in a great panic, fear and unimaginable tension in the ancient town and its environs. The attack, which occurred around 9:41 pm., resulted in the destruction of the police station, but fortunately, no lives were lost. Speaking at St. Patrick's Anglican Church Ijebu Owo on New Year's Day, even though the church pews were scanty with worshippers, Ven. Abiodun reassured the congregation and Nigerians at large that the situation is under control and that "unto. whom shall we go in 2026?"
