Old naira notes, fuel scarcity mar church services and attendance in Ondo

  It is no longer news that the federal government of Nigeria has announced 31st January 2020 today as the deadline for the acceptance of the old naira notes, 200, 500 and 1000 respectively before the rumored shift which has now been confirmed on BBC news pidgin . Now put with the fuel scarcity and price hike of the commodity, these have become another great challenge for worshipers in Ondo city on the last  Sunday of the month.  Many churches visited by AGES correspondents revealed expressly that the churches were sparsely populated while many seats were apparently empty, with very few people in attendance. Some of the church members interviewed who claimed anonymity said that they have to treck short distance from their homes to the church because of proximity but for members whose homes are far away from the church, such could neither attend service for lack of fuel while some complain about money. The situation is not different as a young, dynamic, enterprising, beautiful singer and mother, Mrs. Olayinka Ojopagogo, a descendant of Pa & Mama Omokoku from Owo kingdom celebrated her 40th year birthday in grand style in Ondo on Saturday 21st January 2023. While responding to interview from AGES correspondent, Olayinka remarked, "wow!, to be plus 40 again, I will see my children's children in joy, health and happiness". Town and gown meet in Adeyemi, advocate scientific innovations for Nigerian economy growth

It was another remarkable and historical event in the history of annual national conference of school of science (ANCOSOS) ever held in Adeyemi College of Education Ondo. The Obongawan Grace Ekong Lecture theater was filled to capacity as the "who is who" in the political class, royal class and educational sphere met during the official opening ceremony of the 2023 ANCOSOS. The conference, whose theme is,  "the role of science and science education in driving economic growth and sustainability, was held between 24th to 26th January 2023, with the official opening ceremony held in grand style. The Osemawe of Ondo Kingdom was represented by the Paramount High Chief Olaniyan, the Odofin of Ondo Kingdom, with other royal chiefs in attendance. Febisola Adekeye celebrates 80 in grand style

  The Yeyeluwa of Ondo Kingdom, Chief Mrs. Febisola Amope Adekeye has again celebrated her 80th birthday in grand style in Ondo city. It would be recalled that the educationist, disciplinarian, feminist, political figure, epitome of beauty, and royal class octogenarian celebrated her 70 in 2013 but the 2023 edition is another talk of the town.  A birthday service which was commemorated with an holy eucharist celebrated by the Bishop of Ondo Anglican Diocese, Rt. Rev. Dr. Stephen Adeniran Oni at St. Andrews Anglican church, Idimoge Ondo, on Saturday 21st January 2023, was very memorable.  Mama Febisola Adekeye, fondly called Auty Febi, was apparently dressed in Red Ondo "Aso Oke, Alaari" spiced with a glittering white lace and flanked by her children and in-laws in same attire. Hallmark wins Simbiat Adeyeye final quiz competition

  The annual memorial anniversary of Chief Mrs Stella Olufunke Simbiat Adeyeye (nee Akinfolarin) did not come unnoticed this year. It was spiced with another unique event, a quiz competition. Over the years, it has been football competition among others, but this year has the series of quiz competition previously conducted for some selected schools in Ondo local government area. However, four schools emerged for the final competition. This event was used to commemorate the 20th memorial anniversary off late Chief Mrs Stella Adeyeye.  Hallmark secondary School, Saint Joseph College, Saint Monicas and Saint Louis Girls Grammar school made the final competition. The competition was keenly contested and eventually Hallmark secondary school emerged winner. After five rounds of different subjects ranging from English language, Mathematics Physics, Biology, chemistry and current affairs inclusive. Hallmark secondary School emerged winner with 35 points.
