Rotary Club donates e-library centre to special students

As it is the custom of rotary club worldwide to impact lives, communities and the less privileged, this is not different as the rotary club of Ondo-Adeyemi College ended the rotary year with the donation of e-library centre to special students in the college, as well as food palliatives and glasses to the visually impaired and physically challenged students. The memorable event was held on Friday, 30th June 2023 with the presidential handing over and commissioning of the e-library centre.
The event was presided over by Rotn Olufisayo Fakorede PHF, the outgoing president of the club during the change of leadership baton and celebration of the 10th year anniversary of the club's existence. The club was chattered in June 2013 with 24 chattered members. The club has grown in leaps and bounds, having the timber and calibre of individuals in the club who have sustained the growth and development of the club to an enviable height.
Meanwhile, in a special valedictory address delivered by the president, Olufisayo Fakorede, who appreciated her club members for their unalloyed support to achieve the lofty idea, which had earlier been conceived by her predecessor, IPP Elizabeth Okoroafor, which has now become reality. Fakorede enjoined those who have not joined rotary to think twice and join the fold to do good and impact lives.
The even also witnessed the distribution of food items to special students. "In time like this in Nigeria where food stuff is very costly and the cost of living is so high. Getting this kind of relieve as students from rotary club is very worthwhile", remarked Rot. Dr. Justina Ogboru, the Dean of Students Affairs.
In the words of Dr. Samuel Akintunde, the Provost of the College (which is now a Federal University), who was represented by a one time acting chief executive officer of the Institution, Dr. Abayomi Olajuyigbe, remarked that the University is ready to partner with rotary to sustain the good works of the club. "Going through the past records of the club, we have seen many areas of needs which the club has been able to satisfy for the Institution, and the club still eagers to do more", Olajuyigbe further remarked.
Speaking at the commissioning of the e-library, the provost, thorough Dr. Olajuyigbe, remarked "this is a great development and a welcome idea for rotary to think of the special students by donating computer sets with internet facilities, relevant materials and also renovating existing building in the University for this purpose. This is indeed a laudable idea". He further promised that the University management will ensure the security of the items and the centre.
The University librarian, Mr. Azino Akpokurerie, who was once a rotarian, appreciated the club members for their donation and investment in this area of needs for the special students. He encouraged the club members to be united to be able to pursue other goals of the club for the good of humanity.
While demonstrating and explaining the installed computers at the centre to the distinguished guests and one of the special students during the commissioning, the club executive secretary and IT Director, Rot. Dr. Kehinde Adenegan, showcased the functionalities of the systems and how best they can be used by the end users.
The peak of the event was the change of baton between Rotn Olufisayo Fakorede PHF and the new President of the club, Rot. Taiwo Abiola Olaitan, for the rotary year 2023/2024. I'm her acceptance speech, Olaitan promised to continue the good work the club has been doing, while enjoining the existing members to cooperate and intending members not to hesitate to take membership in the club.
Those present at the event were the chairman committee of Deans and directors, Dr. Akinbobola, the president-elect of the club, Dr. Tope Oziegbe, who is also the director of academic planning of the University, the Union leaders College academic staff (COEASU), Dr. Musili Odutuyi, Dr. Matthew Lawal, and NASU leaders, comrades Joseph Obamoyegun, Festus Ogwuayo, Christiana Obadofin and Pius Meyanga. Others were notable Rotarians from Akure, Akure City, Ondo clubs within the state, ably led by Rot. Juliet Okon, the Club Assistant Governor.

A cleric, Ven. Dr. Olatunde Abiodun, has urged Nigerians to remain calm and not be intimidated by recent attacks nor purported fearful actions around, including the Ipele-Owo incident, where gunmen attacked a police station on New Year's Eve causing the popular crossover night to be abruptly brought to an end in many churches within and around Owo, resulting in a great panic, fear and unimaginable tension in the ancient town and its environs. The attack, which occurred around 9:41 pm., resulted in the destruction of the police station, but fortunately, no lives were lost.
