Rotary club investiture: Makinde, Olugbeko, Ogunsakin and BOVAS receive awards
There are days but these days are different from each other in connection with the happenings of each day. February 18 was a remarkable day in the history of Rotary Club of Ondo-Adeyemi College where Rotarian Olufisayo Olukemi Fakorede PHF, had her investiture which coincided with her birthday. Some well-meaning Nigerians were given special recognition awards at the event.
At the investiture ceremony, Mr Lanre Ogunsakin, who doubled as the chairman of the occasion, was given an award for humanitarian service. Ogunsakin who is a leading globally acclaimed transformation and continuous improvement consultant, and an ordained minister of the gospel, was awarded for his involvement in humanitarian services. Being a passionate individual who is visionary, inspiring and dependable, Ogunsakin has imparted many lives both home and abroad. Dr. Smart Olugbeko, National President of the Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU) and Honorable Dr. Abiola Makinde, MHR Ondo East& West Federal constituency were given special recognition awards.
Honorable Abiola Makinde, who was represented by Otunba Stanley Adegbaye, received special award for his contributions to humanitarian services while Dr. Olugbeko, COEASU national president, who was also represented by Dr. Christopher Omotunde, the Deputy Director of the Entrepreneurship Directorate in Adeyemi, received award for excellence in leadership, since virtually, his lifetime has revolved round leadership, unionism and mentorship. Meanwhile, BOVAS Group and Company Limited was given a special Award for a well deserved meritorious service to humanity with respect to price control, supply and stability of PMS (petrol), fuel oil and gas across Nigeria. At this difficult time in the country, BOVAS has eased the financial tension and stress with her moderate fuel sales.
The ceremony which was held at the Centre for Educational Technology in Adeyemi College of Education Ondo, started on a joyous mood as the new President, Fakorede danced in to the hall amidst her friends, colleagues and other Rotarians in attendance.
Meanwhile, Fakorede has been earlier handed over to by Rotn Elizabeth Okoroafor during the "president night'. However, as it is in the rotary custom during investiture, the outgoing president must also perform his or her official duty during the Investiture event by putting the symbol of the club on the new President which was successfully done by the club's past presidents with the great support from other well-meaning rotarians, Assistant Governor Dr. Oluyede Adeleke Aturamu, District Zonal Co-ordinator, Dr. Kelvin Meyeyin, and other past presidents in attendance.
The event was characterized with success and other side attractions. New members were inducted into the Rotary club which was respectively performed by AG Aturamu, PAG Kelvin Meyeyin, and PP Dr. Justina Ogboru.
Earlier, in her words, the new president, Rotn. Olufisayo Olukemi Fakorede PHF, appreciated members of the club for their unflinching support in making her rotary year successful. She outlined her project as a continuation of the project embarked upon by the Past President, which is the establishment of e-library for physically challenged and visually impaired students in Adeyemi College.
While granting interviews to AGES correspondents, she expressed her immeasurable joy in the investiture ceremony which also coincided with her birthday. She enjoined all well meaning individuals who will still watch the investiture video online or who have received the invitation before to kindly join rotary and donate to support the e-library for physically challenged and visually impaired students.
Earlier, in his opening speech, the chairman of the occasion, Mr. Lanre Ogunsakin who was represented by Mr. Sola Imoru, an astute journalist and a one-time special adviser to the former Governor of Osun State, lauded the attributes of the new President. "I am not surprised that Mrs. Fakorede is a President today and she will not perform less because of her anticidence and her leadership style", Ogunsakin submitted.
Addressing the august gathering, the chairman of the Investiture committee, Rotn. Dr. Rufus Oziegbe, a one time COEASU Adeyemi chapter Chairman and the present Director of Academic Planning of the College, congratulated the president on the investiture as the 10th president the rotary Club of Ondo-Adeyemi College. He also charged guests to generously donate to support the club project.
A short Lecture was delivered by the Deputy Director, Directorate of information and public relations of Adeyemi College of Education Ondo, Rotarian Oluseto Olatuyi, who narrated the genesis to revalution of Rotary Club. She emphasized the core services of Rotary and that over 1.4 million members exist worldwide. She enjoined all and sundry to join this happy family to make the world worth living.
While answering questions arising from the talk, the Assistant Governor Rotn. Aturamu remarked, "Rotary does not speak on politics, religion, nor our differences at rotary meetings but the core of our services is service to humanity. Then outside rotary, other things could be discussed because we do not want what binds us to also divide us".
The MC of the event, Rot. Juliet, a past President of Rotary Club of Akure Metro and the DJ, DJslimcious, as popularly called, spiced up the day with trending music and motivational talks during the event to keep the hall lively and lovely
The President, Rotn. Fakorede used the opportunity to cut her birthday anniversary cake as members took turn to take photographs with her. She also stole the event with her majestic dance as was ably supported by past presidents and some invited guests at the dancing floor.
