Omoniyi retires, walks out of tension into pension

Ondo, Nigeria – April 2, 2025 

Independence Grammar School was filled with warmth and nostalgia as faculty, students, and community members gathered to celebrate the retirement of Pastor Akinbadejo Alaba Omoniyi, a beloved educator and spiritual leader, after over 30 years of dedicated service.

The event, held in the school auditorium  well decorated in green and white, featured heartfelt tributes, musical performances, and reflections on Pastor Omoniyi’s impactful career. Dignitaries, including local government officials, alumni, and representatives from various religious organizations, were present to honor his contributions to education and the community.

Pastor Omoniyi began his last leg retirement journey at Independence Grammar School in 2021, taking on the dual roles of educator and "uncollared school chaplain" with his resourceful and impactful words of wisdom on the school assembly. Over the years, he has been instrumental in shaping the lives of countless students, emphasizing not only academic excellence but also moral and spiritual development. His innovative teaching methods and compassionate approach have left an indelible mark on the school’s culture and where he had worked before.

In his farewell address, Pastor Omoniyi expressed his gratitude for the support and love he received throughout his tenure. “It has been a profound privilege to serve this institution and its wonderful community. I have watched generations of students grow, learn, and thrive, and I am proud to have played a part in their journeys,” he said, visibly moved and emotionally wiping tears of joy on his face. 

Students shared their admiration through poetry and songs, recounting personal stories of how Pastor Omoniyi had influenced their lives. “He taught us not just about academics, but about being good people,” said one of the female students, and a recent graduate of the school. “His principles will stay with us forever", echoed Mrs. Omoyemi Adenegan, one of the teachers in the school. 

The celebration concluded with a special presentation of a plaque, photo frame honoring Pastor Omoniyi’s service, along with a collection of messages from former students and colleagues. As he prepares to enter retirement, Pastor Omoniyi plans to focus on community outreach and mentoring young leaders, continuing his mission to inspire and uplift those around him. Pastor Omoniyi was flanked by his darling wife who was present and adorably dressed in attractive Yoruba attire, looking radiant and beaming with joy of good ending witnessed by his cheerful and loving husband.

The Independence Grammar School community will greatly miss Pastor Akinbadejo Alaba Omoniyi, but his legacy will undoubtedly live on through the many lives he has touched. The school looks forward to welcoming a new chapter while cherishing the values instilled by their esteemed educator.

Ipele-Owo attack: cleric allays Nigerians fear as worshippers desert churches on January 1

A cleric, Ven. Dr. Olatunde Abiodun, has urged Nigerians to remain calm and not be intimidated by recent attacks nor purported fearful actions around, including the Ipele-Owo incident, where gunmen attacked a police station on New Year's Eve causing the popular crossover night to be abruptly brought to an end in many churches within and around Owo, resulting in a great panic, fear and unimaginable tension in the ancient town and its environs. The attack, which occurred around 9:41 pm., resulted in the destruction of the police station, but fortunately, no lives were lost. Speaking at St. Patrick's Anglican Church Ijebu Owo on New Year's Day, even though the church pews were scanty with worshippers, Ven.
