Former Ondo PS/SG installed president of rotary club

In an epoch event which was a remarkable one in the history of Rotary Club of Akure City where the former Permanent Secretary and Surveyor General of Ondo State, Surveyor Semiyu Abiodun Adigun was installed the eighth president of the club on Saturday 12th August, 2023 at ODSPC event center, Ijapo estate, Akure City in Ondo State. 

It would be recalled that rotary is an organisation, a worldwide one indeed, that has been responsible for the social and physical well-being of the citizens. The noble club has been taken care of the seven cardinal areas of human needs which include water and sanitation, education and literacy, child and maternal health, peace and conflict resolution, among others. In the custom of rotary club worldwide, each year, a president is installed to paddle the canoe of leadership of the club with targeted goals to be reached. This is not different when rotary Club of Akure deemed it fit to elect a viable, renown philanthropist, an astute administrator, energetic, sociable, approachable, accessible, and highly respected Rotarian, Surveyor Adigun to ascend the throne of leadership of the club. 

Adigun is an Owo-born distinguished administrator and a titled chief in Owo kingdom was flanked by his darling heart Rob and amiable wife. Chief Mrs. Titilayo Adigun, both dressed in Italian blue suit. Rot. Adigun is an alumni of the prestigious Owo High School owo. His investiture ceremony was well attended by well-meaning Nigerians; the Royal class, professionals, Rotarians, artisans and many well wishers. His Imperial Majesty, Olowo of Owo, Oba Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye III, was majestically present. All the rotary club presidents in Ondo State were also in attendance, among others. Senator Ipinsagba chaired the occasion. 

In his acceptance speech after the investiture, Surveyor Adigun, the excited president, appreciated members, guests and the Royal class for their presence and the support received in cash and kind to support his lofty goals for the new Rotary year. He promised to do his best to keep the flag of the club flying. 

The chairman of the occasion, Senator Olajide Ipinsagba, extolled the virtues of rotary club especially in Nigeria in very many areas the clubs have touched lives,  individuals, homes, and communities. He also did not fail to extol the virtues of the newly-installed president whose  antecedent is believed to initiate projects and progress for the club. In his words, "I am not surprised that you are chosen as the president of this club and I am quite sure, and never in doubt, that your tenure of office will be very remarkable for your noble club".

Meanwhile, Rotn. Tomi Agbede-Adeyemi, the outgoing president of the rotary club of Akure City who handed over to the former Surveyor General, stewardship, highlighted some of her achievements in the office and equally appreciated members for their unflinching support. She advocated hundred percent cooperation with the newly installed president, Rot. (Surv) Adigun.

Major highlights of the event include a public lecture delivered by a renowned Professor and an academic giant. Prof. Femi Mimiko, induction of new members and presentation of awards to notable Nigerians. The awardees include Hon. Bunmi Tunji Ojo, Rt. Hon. Victor Olabintan, Hon. Wale Akinterinwa, Rt. Hon. Fatai Olotu, Senior High Chief Bibopere Ajube. Others were Alhaji Olayinka Adigun, Surveyor (Mrs.) Funmilola Fakorede, Mr. Ayodeji Johnson, and Barrister Adesope Adeyinka. 

After the event, the new president, Adigun who could not hide his joy took to the rotary club Ondo State platform, being also the President of Presidents of all rotary clubs in ondo state which constitute of nine registered clubs across the State, appreciated all attendees and especially His Imperial Majesty, Olowo of Owo and the chairman of the event, Senator Olajide Ipinsagba. He further assured members of his resilience and commitment to achieving his goals and objectives of being the eighth president at this material time. 

In his words, "I wish to register my profound gratitude to all who honoured me with their esteemed presence at my investiture as the 8th president of ROTARY CLUB OF AKURE CITY yesterday. I want to specially appreciate HIS IMPERIAL MAJESTY, OBA (DR) AJIBADE GBADEGESIN OGUNOYE III, the paramount ruler of Owo kingdom for his presence throughout the duration of the ceremony and donations to the club projects added colour to the occasion. Also my appreciation also goes to the chairman of the occasion Senator Olajide Ipinsagba. From the bottom of my heart I also thank the representative of the DISTRICT GOVERNOR, all the HOPE PRESIDENTS, All PAST PRESIDENTS, ROTARIANS AND ROTARACTORS for their contributions one way or the other to make the ceremony a huge success. My deepest appreciation goes to my professional body the NIGERIANS INSTITUTIONS OF SURVEYORS (ONDO STATE CHAPTER) under the leadership of my amiable chair Surv (Mrs.) Funmilola Helen Fakorede FNIS who, despite the short notice, mobilized SURVEYORS in the state to the occasion, Eniyan laso mi e se modupe. To the Surveyor General and all members of staff "OFFICE OF THE SURVEYOR GENERAL ONDO STATE " I say thank you, lastly I want to appreciate all AWARDEES for their generous donations towards the success of the club projects, I pray God almighty will replenish your pockets in millions fold. Earlier, Rot. Surv. Adigun, the President of Presidents had also led all other presidents to the investiture of Rot. Ayo Ruphina Akinbinu, newly installed President of the Rotary Club of Ondo on August 5 2023 where the Ondo state Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Princess Oladunni Odu, was also the Chairperson at the occasion which was another talk of the town event. "Rotary has been doing good worldwide and in Nigeria and will continue to do good" remarked one of the Rotarians in attendance.
