In what was described as another significant and spectacular event in Ondo City on Tuesday 17th January, 2023, where some petty traders were empowered by the Adeyeye's family. The event was held at 1828 Hotes and Suites in Ondo city.
It would be recalled that Chief Mrs Stella Adeyeye died about 20 years ago on 19th January 2003. In what has been an annual event organized by the children of the late renowned Ondo-born disciplinarian and philanthropist, the family empowered 150 women who were randomly selected from the city. These selected women were not selected based on political affiliation, religion or ethnicity but were selected on merit from the streets where they were roasting plantain, selling oranges and hawking pepper, to demonstrate fairness and equity without any sentiment. This was notably done by a committee set up by the family.
Speaking at the commencement of the program, Otunba Bola Adeyeye, who described the event as targeted at petty traders and not shop owners and the like. He enjoined the beneficiaries to make good use of the cash. The sum of N25,000 was given to each trader to boost their financial trades and better their lots.
In the same vein, Hon. Dr. Jibayo Adeyeye, a grassroot politician and an highly revered personality in Ondo Kingdom, clearly spelt out to the beneficiaries, the reasons for the empowerment. "Please, appreciate your selection and make good use of the opportunity. This is never politically motivated and I do not have any candidate for this empowerment, neither do my siblings have", so reiterated Hon. Dr. Jibayo. He further remarked that the team that went out for the selection will definitely follow up to ensure that the money is being judiciously used by the beneficiaries whose addresses and phone numbers have been harvested for proper monitoring. While addressing the beneficiaries in Ondo dialect, Jibayo charged the women not to use the money for "Aso ebi" and the like.
Meanwhile, the beneficiaries, who could not hide their joy, described the event as a laudable one, and promised that the opportunity will be best used to reciprocate the family's gesture. A beneficiary identified as Mrs. Idowu Ojo and another joyful trader who for the exceeding joy was carried away to identify herself, showered encomiums on Otunba Bola Adeyeye and Hon. Jibayo Adeyeye in Ondo dialects. They equally rained prayers on the family for this great opportunity.
Another beneficiary, Mrs. Christiana Kehinde remarked, "this is the miracle of the year for me. I was in church when I was told that God will bless and return my lost money and the speedy fulfilment came through the Adeyeyes.
Earlier, a renowned man of God in attendance and a friend of the Adeyeyes, Pastor Tomisin of Doulous Ministry, offered prayers to God on behalf of the family and also prayed for the beneficiaries for God to enlarge their businesses with what they were given .
Feeding questions from AGES correspondence, the coordinator in charge of the beneficiaries selection, simply identified as Victor, expressed satisfaction in the program and prayed for the family of the deceased in whose honour the event was organized . The attack, which occurred around 9:41 pm., resulted in the destruction of the police station, but fortunately, no lives were lost. Speaking at St. Patrick's Anglican Church Ijebu Owo on New Year's Day, even though the church pews were scanty with worshippers, Ven. Abiodun reassured the congregation and Nigerians at large that the situation is under control and that "unto. whom shall we go in 2026?" The Man of God decried his experience overnight when many worshippers had to flee the church virtually leaving the priests alone...
