Oni installs canons, collates archdeacons, asks congregation to pick up PVCs for a New Nigeria

Promotion comes neither from the east nor the west, but from God, the maker of heaven and earth! As it is in the tradition of the Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion for priests to get preferment as promotion, the Lord Bishop of the Diocese of Ondo, Rt. Revd. Dr. Stephen Adeniran Oni, has again collated two new Archdeacons and installed two new Canons.

The event which took place at the Cathedral Church of St Stephens Oke Aluko, Ondo, had the Revd. Peter Akolade Williams installed as a statutory canon, and Revd Rufus Olugbenga Akinbusoye installed as an honorary canon of the cathedral. Also, the Rev. Canon Adeola Olusile Ariyo and Samuel Idowu Erinfolami were collated as Archdeacons.

While leading the congregation into an explosive intercessory prayers, Bishop Oni charged the congregation to pray for a new Nigeria for God to swing into action quickly and clear the mess in the nation. He urged members of the communion, especially the youths, to use their permanent voters cards (PVCs) to vote out all the present ungodly leaders who want Nigeria driven to state of coma. While berating greedy and fake men of God masquerading as God sent Bishops and men of God to speak where God does not speak, Oni prayed God to expose them and enthrone justice, peace and tranquility in the troubled nation, Nigeria. "How can concerned leaders allow these young ones stay out of the campuses, roam the street with highest degree of crimes involvement, schools closed down and feel comfortable using billions to buy vehicles for neighboring nation when his is in disarray", Bishop Oni exclaimed!

Meanwhile, in his own words, Ven. Adebola Aratunde, the preacher at the service, remarked, "come and see honourable people doing dishonorable things in our nation today. What a world!. We are all going to be called to accountability and judgement soon afterwards".

Earlier, Ven. Aratunde, an Archdeacon in Ondo Diocese and the vicar of Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Yaba congratulated the new Canons and Archdeacons.  He reminded them that people easily forget what the responsibilities of the positions they occupy but are quickly carried away by their status. He further prayed God to give men grace to use whatever position being occupied to the best of their ability.

"People look after the gains of office or position rather than doing the office expectations. You Canons, do not misfire, never waste the bullets in your guns. And you Venerable, you are venerated fellows. Hence, you need to live above board to the standard of your office" were the words of advice the preacher gave to the newly installed and collated priests. He further reminded them to know and note that a Bishop will not think the way a priest will think, nor a venerable will think and act like a Canon. He urged them, as well as the congratulation, to sit down to consider the herculean tasks in God's kingdom and figure out how to go by the works.

The event was climaxed with thanksgiving, praises and inspirational musicals from the combined Diocesan choir led by the Ven. Henry Akinrotimi. The installation and collation service featured the Dean of the Cathedral, Ven. Solomon Olumiyiwa Adeleye and the Ven. Olanrewaju Ogunmiluyi who respectively presented the Archdeacons and Canons to the Lord Bishop.

The service was well attended by the cathedral church chiefs, community leaders, parishioners, well meaning citizens, Rt. Revd. & Mrs. N. O. Fasogbon (Rtd), retired priests, priest wives led by Mama Ondo, Mrs. Oyewola Blessing Oni and all the Diocesan Priests.
