Ondo Anglican Diocese hosts ACADI, experts call for public outcry against drug abuse
Declaring the training open, the Lord Bishop of the Diocese of Ondo, The Rt. Revd. Dr. Stephen Adeniran Oni lauded the efforts of the Primate of the Church of Nigeria, The Most Revd Henry Ndukuba for the initiative at this material point in time in the history of the nation. He welcomed the facilitators, Dr. Joshua Falade and Dr. Yetunde Olagbuji (Nee Ogunyankin) who had come to fully represent the anchor man behind ACADI and NAWADA, Prof. Adesegun Fatusi, the Vice-Chancellor of the Ondo State University of medical sciences (UNIMED), Ondo. Bishop Oni enjoined all participants to make the best of the training opportunity so that everyone can jointly fight the drug scourge that is almost ruining our society.
While delivering his lecture, Dr. Joshua Falade,
a senior lecturer and a psychosis consultant at the University of Medical Sciences,
Ondo, exposed the participants to drugs
and drugs related matters, causes of drug abuse, and drug addiction versus drug
misuse among others. In his exposition, Falade highlighted peer pressure,
curiosity, and drug as means of obtaining inspiration, competition, and filling
social lacuna among others as reasons most people, especially youths take to
drugs. “Eni to ni k’aye o ma m’oun to lo
n l’egbogi oloro, aye ti get e finally, ki won ju u le lo ku”, Dr. Falade
jokingly remarked in Yoruba. Meaning that “the person who is avoiding the world to catch
up with him and decided to take to drugs has been finally caught up, what is only
left is for the person to be left alone to damnation”.
In conclusion, both experts, Falade and Olagbuji,
see the church as an entity to bring succor the way of these helpless
individuals who have taken to drugs. In particular, Joshua Falade appealed to
the men of God in attendance to see this task as a collective responsibility to
use the word of God as a tool to bring back the hearts of these youths and
individuals to the knowledge of God.
