Heaven’s mandate on earth: Irele/Ese-Odo Diocese charges faithful at 2026 synod

The Anglican Diocese of Irele/Ese-Odo turned its gaze upward and its mission outward between June 12-14, 2026 at the St. Andrew's Cathedral as clergy, lay delegates, and dignitaries gathered for the Synod under the stirring theme, “Our Father, Who Art in Heaven: Imperatives for His Children on Earth.”

Delivering the Synod charge, the Bishop and President of Synod, Rt. Rev’d Samuel Olanrewaju Ogunmiluyi, called on Christians to mirror the holiness, justice, and mercy of their heavenly Father in daily life. He stressed that faith must move beyond the sanctuary walls to shape families, communities, and public life in Irele, Ese-Odo, and beyond.

“The Lord’s Prayer is not just a recitation; it is a blueprint,” Bishop Ogunmiluyi said. “If God is our Father in heaven, then we on earth must live as sons and daughters who reflect His character—loving neighbors, pursuing righteousness, and being agents of peace in a troubled world.”

The charge tackled contemporary challenges facing the church and society, urging members to embrace discipleship, integrity, and sacrificial service as non-negotiable responses to God’s fatherhood.

The Synod drew strong ecumenical support, with representatives (Ven. Dr. Olajobi, Ven. . Olumuyiwa A delete and Ven. Sunday Ajayi) of the Bishops of Ekiti, Ondo, and Ijebu Dioceses in attendance. Also present was the Bishop of Idanre Diocese, Rt. Rev’d Dr. Otenaike, alongside clergy, church kinights , and other dignitaries who lent weight to the gathering. Among whom we have, Mrs. Olufunke Ogunmiluyi (wife of the Bishop), Sir Oguntuase, Sir Asiwaju Boye Aroloye, Sir Barrister Temidayo Akindejoye, Mr. Solomon Akindutire, Mr. Feyi Adeboyeku, Ven. Dr. Paul and Dr. Mrs. Bukoa Omosuyi (the Synod opening preacher and bible study leader), Mr. Awe, Mr. Gabriel Adelabu, Dr. Kehinde Adenegan, just to mention a few. 

Delegates described the atmosphere as both reflective and energizing, with calls for renewed commitment to evangelism, youth engagement, and community development. Resolutions from the Synod are expected to guide the diocese’s ministry and outreach over the coming year.


As the Synod closes, the message was clear: heaven’s Fatherhood demands earthly responsibility. For Irele/Ese-Odo Diocese, the task now is to translate prayer into practice. The thanksgiving service sermon is expected to be preached by the Ven. Dr. Joshua Oluitan.

Ipele-Owo attack: cleric allays Nigerians fear as worshippers desert churches on January 1

A cleric, Ven. Dr. Olatunde Abiodun, has urged Nigerians to remain calm and not be intimidated by recent attacks nor purported fearful actions around, including the Ipele-Owo incident, where gunmen attacked a police station on New Year's Eve causing the popular crossover night to be abruptly brought to an end in many churches within and around Owo, resulting in a great panic, fear and unimaginable tension in the ancient town and its environs.
