AI in Our Own Words: A Cross-Cultural Exploration – A Successful Webinar Bridging Cultures and Technology.

— In an engaging and insightful webinar titled "AI in Our Own Words: A Cross-Cultural Exploration," organized by AI & Tech Skills in partnership with Adeyemi College of Technology (ACT), Ondo, participants from around the globe gathered online to explore the cultural dimensions of artificial intelligence (AI). The event, held on April 30th from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., successfully bridged diverse cultural perspectives and technological advancements, fostering a deeper understanding of AI's role across different communities.
The webinar was accessible via YouTube and on Zoom with the meeting ID 82133699360 and passcode AI2504web. The session kicked off with a smooth virtual entry, allowing attendees to join seamlessly from various locations. The organizers ensured a well-structured flow, beginning with opening formalities and culminating in an interactive question-and-answer segment.
The event commenced promptly at 10:00 a.m. with a brief two-minute opening of the Zoom hall and YouTube channel, followed by continuous virtual entry from participants eager to engage in the discourse.
Dr. Kehinde Adenegan, a respected academic and organizer, officially welcomed attendees, setting a warm tone for the session with a 2.5-minute speech that emphasized the importance of cross-cultural dialogue in technological innovation.
Moderators introduced the distinguished panelists—experts from various Nigerian universities—who would share their insights on AI through the lens of their respective cultures.
Prof. Ayodeji Oluwatope (Obafemi Awolowo University) delivered a groundbreaking 7-minute talk on "AI in Our Own Words," emphasizing the importance of local narratives in shaping AI's future.
Prof. Martina Onuegbu (Adeyemi Federal University of Education and Ondo, AFUED) explored "Naming AI: Igbo Cultural Perspectives," highlighting how indigenous naming practices influence perceptions of AI.
Prof. Taiwo Adenegan (Achievers University, Owo) discussed "General AI Usage in the Real World," illustrating how AI crosses boundaries beyond cultural contexts.
Meanwhile, Dr. Idayat Oyenike Saka (AFUED) presented on "Naming AI: Yoruba Cultural Perspectives," emphasizing the significance of language and tradition in technological narratives.
In his own session, Dr. Sale Maikanti (AFUED) shared insights into "Hausa Cultural Perspectives," exploring how cultural values shape AI integration.
A vibrant meaningful time segment allowed participants to voice their comments, pose questions, and share perspectives, fostering a dynamic exchange of ideas.
Giving his closing remarks, Prof. Oluwatope provided closing reflections, emphasizing the importance of cultural inclusivity in AI development.
Remarkably, Dr. Kehinde Adenegan (ACT, AI&TS) summarized key takeaways, highlighting the need for everyone to be culturally aware of AI frameworks.
While showing gratitude, Robert Akinkuoye Esq. (Registrar, ACT) expressed gratitude on behalf of the organizers, thanking all participants and speakers.
