Okebukola, Sue Dale Tunnicliffe, Ogunlade and others, make case for Early Years STEM


The International Research Group (IRG) in conjunction with Commonwealth Association of Science, Technology and Mathematics Educators (CASTME) successfully hosted a virtual international seminar on "STEM Explorations in Early Years: Setting the Stage for Lifelong Learning" on Wednesday, November 27, 2024.

The seminar, which commenced at 2:30 pm WAT, brought together stakeholders from around the world, including formal and informal educators, researchers, and experts in the field of Early Years STEM.

The event was led by Emeritus Prof. Peter Okebukola, who served as the Team lead, while Lady Dr Sue Dale Tunnicliffe, Chairperson Board of Trustees CASTME, UK and Prof. Ibiyinka Ogunlade, Director, Children-in- Science and Technology (CIST), organizers. Both erudite scholars canvassed for the exploration of STEM in early years for lifelong learning.

The Seminar featured presentations from renowned international guest speakers, including Dr. Mohedrish Kavish (Mauritius), Dr Ornit Spektor- Levy (Israel), Dr. Bugoma Suwadu ( Burundi),Dr Poh Tan (Canada) Dr. Felicia Nkrumah Camara Omar, Prof. Hesham Elsunni, and Michael Armah, among others.

Nigerian scholars also shared their research findings and position paper including Prof. Sola Agboola from Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Dr. Kehinde Adenegan from Adeyemi Federal University of Education (AFUED), Dr. Lekan Adekunle, Dr. Chinyere Eunice, Dr. Agyeman Okyere, and several others.

The seminar aimed to strengthen the international network of researchers working in the areas of Early Years STEM and provide a platform for stakeholders to showcase their experiences and present their research activities.

The event was a huge success, with participants from around the world engaging in discussions and sharing their expertise on Early Years STEM. The seminar highlighted the importance of STEM education in the early years and its impact on lifelong learning.

The International Research Group (IRG) plans to continue hosting such events to promote collaboration and knowledge sharing among researchers and stakeholders in the field of Early Years STEM.
