Lady Aduke Adewole goes home as children extol her virtues

Lady Aduke Adewole
The prayers of old parents are that they live to enjoy the days of their lives and depart this sinful world peacefully, having well-meaning children to take care of them and what they will leave behind. "There is time for everything so says the holy scriptures". The case is not different with Lady Felicia Aduke Adewole as she transited to the world beyond after living a fulfilling 91 years on planet Earth. Her funeral was a talk of the town and memorable one as her children, family, friends and well-meaning Nigerians celebrated her glorious exit.  Her funeral service, which was held at Holy Trinity Anglican church Yaba, Ondo was very glorious. It was an enviable service and celebration for old people who wish to gloriously exit this world for their eternal home.

Extolling Lady Adewole's virtues, the eldest child of mama Felicia, Mr. Oludolapo Adewole recalled that their mother was a disciplinarian and a lover of the children. "She instilled discipline into all of us and taught us honesty and hard work. She cannot but be celebrated in this way as she departs to the world beyond", Oludolapo asserted.
Speaking further on the virtues of his mother, Mr. Oludolapo said "my mother was the strength of My Father. I did not discover this until when I was growing older that I saw that our mother was the foundation of our family. She will ever be remembered for her good deeds. She deserves this type of celebration and am extremely glad that everyone supported us to give her befitting burial". Speaking on behalf of all the children during the service of songs held at the citadel hall Ondo, Oludolapo extolled the discipline virtue of his mother. "Mama instilled discipline into all of us and that has reflected in all of us. We will be ever grateful to her for this", Oludolapo reiterated.

In her words, one of the grandchildren, Mrs. Oyinkansola Morakinyo (Nee Isijola) said Mama used to bless them in prayers while she was alive. "I will miss Mama for her words of prayers and encouragement. If there is anything I will miss is her smiling mood and warm reception. Mama was always lively whenever people were around her", Oyinkansola recounted.
Earlier at the christian wake keep service, the children who were well dressed in white and with all the guests, church members, family members, well wishers and priests were all gathered at the service of songs to sing farewell songs and appreciated the life well spent by Mama.

While welcoming Mama's children and the guests to the service of song, the Vicar of Holy Trinity Anglican church, Yaba Ondo, Venerable Olubunmi Olowosusi extoled the virtues of mama while on earth. "We are all children of mama and we can speak concisely on her good works and even that of her late husband as well", Olowosusi retorted. "now I know Mama will be fondly remembered for her kind gesture. Surely the Works left behind by mama and her beloved husband will definitely be carried on by her children whom we know are capable of embarking on such works both in the church and the community", the Vicar concluded.

In his short exhortation, the Bishop of Lagos West Diocese, Rt. Revd. Dr. Olusola Odedeji remarked, "Mama has seen and conquered. She's here now being carried to wherever we want and not where she dictates and so is every man's end going to be. We all have one Life to live and we must be careful of how we live our lives here on Earth". Bishop Odedeji spoke further that this life is just for a while and it is a marketplace where everyone will get back home to give account or check to reconcile his or her activities, either it is a profitable or non profitable venture that has been embarked upon in the marketplace.

Prayers were offered for the children at the end of the service of songs which was led by the Bishop of the Diocese of Lagos West, Rt. Revd. Dr. James Olusola Odedeji. Present at the Christian wake keep, among other religious leaders, were Pastor Dr. Hezekiah Ilutoye CAC church Baltimore, Pastor Felix Osunkiyesi, CAC Salvation Center, USA, Pastor Olaniyi CAC Ile Aanu Ondo, Pastor Adesioye Henry, Pastor Ajilowo RCCG, Ven. Gabriel Fawole, Mama's former Vicar, Rev. Eso, Rev. Oso, Bishop's chaplain, Lagos West, Rev. Oyetola, Asst Priest at Holy Trinity with other lay readers, organist Olaleye and the choristers.

The Holy Trinity Anglican church was filled to capacity on Friday 10th February 2023 as people from all walks of life gathered to bid Mama Adewole farewell. The Lord Bishop of Ondo Anglican Diocese preached at the service while the Bishop of the Diocese of Lagos West read the only lesson.

In his sermon, the Bishop of Ondo Anglican Diocese, Rt. Rev'd Dr. Stephen Adeniran Oni extolled the good virtues of Mama Adewole and what she has done for the Christian Community and her family in general. The Bishop reminded all guests and family members seated, "one day, we will all be like this mama inside the casket who does not know what is going on in the world nor have any idea of no money, no fuel, no food in Nigeria. All these are to her deaf ears now". He challenged all to remember the last day!

Speaking further in his sermon, Bishop Oni urged members in attendance to struggle to have their names written in the Book of Life. "With the present situation in Nigeria and the unpalatable challenges of no light, no money, and no fuel, will you suffer here on earth and still lose your soul in heaven?", the Bishop asked. After the sermon, the Vicar of the church seized the opportunity to pray for the children and members of the family of Mama Felicia. He enjoined the children not to forsake the church and the legacy left behind by their parents.
Leading all the children who were adorably dressed in gold cloths and admirable traditional aso oke to the altar for prayers, the eldest son and child of Mama, Dr. Oludolapo Adewole addressed the church and promised never to leave the church despite the glorious exit of their parents. However Dr. Toyin Adebola, an erudite scholar and a chief lecturer at Adeyemi College of Education Ondo was nominated to be representing Mama in the church society, Egbe Ibukun. Earlier, the Egbe Ibukun society members honoured The departed soul by rendering a Yoruba song, "Ma sun olufe..."  beside her coffin in the service.

After the remains of Mama were laid to rest at her residence, the children and guests later proceeded to four seasons event center, located in the heart of Ondo city for the reception which was well attended by well-meaning Nigerians, and guests from within and outside the country. Guests were treated to assorted sumptuous meals and drinks. Among guests present at the service and reception were His Royal Highness, The Olukotun of Ikotun Ekiti, Engr. The children, grand children, and family members (The Faseghas and Adewoles) were called in turns to the dancing floor. Mr. & Mrs. Oludolapo Adewole led the dancing floor for the children after the family dance. Dr. Oluwatoyin Adebola and her amiable husband took turn to dance while Mr. Olayinka Adewole & Sabaina Adewole followed. It was a grand style as Dr. Ololade Isijola, a senior lecturer at Adeyemi College of Education and her darling husband stole the show with their remarkable dance styles. In that order, Mr. Omoyele and his heart rob, Oluwaranti Adewole gave a sparkling dancing show just immediately after Mr. Babajide and Adenike Adewole's dance. It was indeed a glamorous event and very colourful. A well-deserved celebration was done in honour of this great disciplinarian and lovely mother who will be sorely missed by all. Adieu Mama!
