Nigerian leaders are not humble enough to accept their mistakes! Bankole blows hot as Ondo Diocese holds trinity ordination

Nigerian leaders are not humble enough to accept their mistakes! This is a statement credited to the Very Revd Francis Olanrewaju Bankole, the Dean of the Emmanuel Cathedral of Ekiti Anglican Diocese as he blew hot on the pulpit while delivering a sermon at the trinity ordination of the Diocese of Ondo, held at the Cathedral Church of St. Stephen, Oke Aluko on Sunday 10th June, 2022.

At a service presided over by His Lordship, the Rt. Revd. Dr. Stephen Adeniran Oni, the guest preacher delivered his sermon on the topic, "abiding in Christ". He reiterated five conditions for abiding in Christ. He remarked humility as one of the virtues which he noted is a feature far from the qualities of our leaders in Nigeria to be so humble to accept their mistakes so that the nation can move forward.

Meanwhile, beginning the sermon, Very Revd Bankole said "God has something great for the congregation". He quoted from John 15. 1-7. He further noted that the word was targeted not only to the new ordinands but to all the church congregants. He remarked that the church and the world are flocked with many assorted pastors today with different kind of "anointing". The preacher asserted that it is really grace for anyone to be called by God into His ministry. It is God that qualifies our inadequacies to be qualified to to do His work and not that we deserve it.

Bankole further noted, "many are now looking for anointing for service and not with the true intent to do God's work. Anointing for relationship with Christ in order to abide in Christ is key". God changed Abram to Abraham when he developed intimate relationship with God. Hence, for quality service and results for Gods work, we need to abide in Christ.

He x-rayed five qualities needed to abide in Christ. First, to be born again, conversion is important. Talents and gifts are not evidence of genuine conversion.l,.so said the cleric.  He challenged the congregation to abide in Christ as it pays. Other points are conviction, contrite heart, humility and risk taking. We need to be convinced to be convenient. It's the conviction that drives our faith. While discussing the third point, which he refered to as contrite heart, he pointed out that leaders are not humble enough to accept their mistakes. He remarked that we are all prone to make mistakes.

The last point Revd Bankole mentioned was risk taking in which he analyzed the word "risk". R-responsibility, I-initiatives, S-sacrifice and K-knowledge  He stressed that sone priests do make unnecessary jokes which should not be  "Take initiatives, sacrifice. If you don't plant, you cannot reap. If you don't go extra length, you can't have extra lesson. Without battle you can't be a General" were his last words as he concluded the thought provoking sermon. He encouraged and tasked priests to improve their wives in term of knowledge and skills development.

Lastly, consistency is needed for priests to keep their integrity in their ministry, the cleric maintained. The world, money, and l power can severe our relationship with God. He tasked the congregation, especially, the newly ordained priests and deacons to set their boundary in order to .amen their desired goals in life. We all need special encounters that will take us back to the cross

In what was described as a courageous move was the time the Lord Bishop of Ondo Diocese, the Rt. Red. Dr.. Adeniran Oni filed out the ordinands to be ordained and priests to be fully priested, and asked the congregation to own up if there is any tangible reason for any 9f those individuals to be ordained into priesthood. Oni cautioned the newly ordained priests to be mindful of their calling and act in accordance with the scriptures. He further lamented that Ondo Diocese has zero tolerance for gay.   "The Diocese it's ready to show such people out if the ministry, Bishop Oni maintained .

Nineteen able and dynamic young men from the combined Dioceses of Ondo and Ekiti were ordained at the service which was graced by a very large number of worshippers drawn from the two Dioceses. It would be recalled that Bishop Oni has been the supervising Bishop of Ekiti Diocese since the retirement of the immediate past Archbishop of Ondo Province and the Bishop of Ekiti Diocese.

Those ordained as Deacons were Samuel AyoOluwa Adisa , Opeyemi David Bamikefa , Lucas Adeboye Temidoro , Olawuyi Kehinde Oyedeji , Oyetunde Mathew Oyetola , Olumide Oluwashina Oluwasimide, Babawale Femi Oyerinde , Olubowale Pius Odubekun , Temitope James Akinyemi, and Owolabi Omotuyi. Meanwhile, the Reverends * Omotayo Victor Ojo, Feyisayo Raphael Afiolayan , Oluwasegun Emmanuel Olaniyi , Abiodun Fisayo Adegbulu , Gabriel Idowu Akinwumi, Daniel Sunday Oga , Bethel Ogbonnaya Nwanja,  Stephen Oluwasemilore Adefioye and Olawale Olutoye Odewale as full fledged priests of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion.

According to the constitution of the church of Nigeria, the newly ordained Deacons and priests took turns to sign the oath of allegiance before Justice Taiwo Obayemi Taiwo and Barrister Yejide Ogundipe. The congregation was treated to melodious songs and inspiring  melodies by the cathedral choristers who sang with their sonorous voices.

The service was well attended by the who is who in the Anglican Diocese if Ondo and also by priests from the Diocese of Ekiti. Mama Ondo, Mrs. Oyewobi Blessing Oni led the priests wife who were all adorably dressed in unique English wears with red hat. It was indeed a remarkable and memorable service.
